As you walk the streets of the Pelourinho, the old town of Brazil’s Salvador, you can often hear the sound of drumming. Salvador is characterised by Afro-Brazil culture and its drum-corps play an important role in this. When we visited Salvador we were told there was a chance we would stumble into one of the drum-corps pounding in the streets which I was really hoping we would. So I was absolutely thrilled when, on hearing the sound of the drums a few streets away, we rushed towards it to find Banda Dida, Salvador’s all female drum corps, performing. Here are the photos we took of this unique Afro-Brazilian performance.
