The Notre Dame Cathedral is as essential a part of any Paris itinerary as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. The world watched in shock this week as it went up in flames; the video of the steeple collapsing was particularly devastating. I’ve read some interesting articles this week analysing the response of the French billionaires who have rushed to help (comparisons to the lackadaisical response to Grenfell Tower have been made, as well as references to the yellow vest protests and the refugee children who sleep in the Paris streets and the lack of help offered to them). Regardless of these points, seeing the destruction of an old, beautiful building with such cultural and historical importance is always tragic and I really hope a collective effort can be made to rebuild it to its former glory. Here’s some photos of the Notre Dame Cathedral from when we visited in 2015.
