The Old Town in Marsielle, Panier, is so pretty

Narrow lanes, windows with shutters, pretty courtyards and laundry fluttering from lines overhead: the old town of Marseille, the second largest city in France, is the definition of picturesque. Unlike many old towns I’ve visited around the world, Panier hasn’t had its original charm spoiled by the tourist industry – people do live there, and instead of tourist groups and Swarovski crystal shops, you’ll find small cafes, restaurants and shops which are owned and used by locals.

Here’s some photographs of Marseille’s charming old town.
