13 Photos Of Amazing Cities Skylines I’ve Seen

In each city we visit, Paul and I always carefully research the best place to take a picture of the view. Looking back over our photographs, I love seeing how each city skyline is so different – from the brutal grey concrete of Warsaw to the lush oceans and mountains of Rio to the vast neon concrete jungle of Tokyo. Here’s 13 photos of amazing city skylines I’ve seen around the world.

Rome Skyline

The view of Rome was taken from Il Vittoriano. It shows one of the world’s most iconic sights, the Colosseum, nestled amongst the everyday goings on of the city.

Prague skyline

This photo of Prague’s Old Town Square was taken from the city’s Old Town Hall. It shows the vast square, baroque architecture, and Prague’s most recognisable building to the right – the Our Lady Before Tyn church.

Rio skyline

Rio’s skyline is just magnificent, a mix of urban sprawl, curved mountain peaks and blinding blue ocean. There are many vantage points in the city to see it but probably the best is the Christ the Redeemer statue which is where this picture was taken.

Sao Paulo skyline

This photo of the concrete jungle that is Sao Paulo was taken from the city’s Vila Madalena neighbourhood.

Marseille skyline

Perched on top of a hill, Notre-Dame de la Garde is a constant presence in Marseille’s skyline. This photo shows it overlooking the city’s Vieux Port.

Warsaw skyline

Destroyed in World War Two and rebuilt from scratch during Soviet Rule, sharp angles and grey concrete feature heavily in Warsaw’s skyline. This photograph was taken from the city’s tallest building (which is actually the tallest building in Poland), the Palace of Culture and Science.

Barcelona skyline

Any photograph of Barcelona’s skyline must feature its most famous building – the Sagrada Família (usually covered in scaffolding as it’s still in the process of being completed). This view also features the gherkin shaped Torre Glòries building and the Mediterranean sea beyond.

London skyline

Primrose Hill in North London offers one of the best view of the city’s skyline. It is also a lovely spot to relax in the grass.

Athens skyline

Athens surely has one of the most magnificent skylines in the world. And it is topped by one of the world’s magnificent (and oldest) buildings – the Parthenon. This photograph was taken from the bar A for Athens.

Tokyo skyline

Mori Tower in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills has incredible panoramic views of the city: it might just provide the best city view I’ve ever seen. This is the skyline at night with Tokyo Tower on the left.

Seoul skyline

Seoul doesn’t have a recognisable skyline as it’s very sprawling but its Namsan Tower is its most recognisable landmark. This slow shutter photo was taken in the Noksapyeong neighbourhood.

Thessaloniki skyline

Thessaloniki has an enviable position at the edge of the Aegean Sea. This photo shows its city sprawl with the Roman Rotunda in the centre and glittering sea beyond.

Paris skyline

There are many places to view Paris’s skyline (of which the Eiffel Tower is always the focus) but the most expansive is Montparnasse Tower. This photo was taken at dusk with the tower lit up and the streets lit like veins through the city. Also, that’s Sacre Cour on the right.
