When we visited Brazil in 2014 one of the sights we were most looking forward to was the Christ the Redeemer statue. The sculpture of Jesus overlooking the Rio de Janeiro with its arms outstretched is so iconic. Not only that, its vantage point on top of Corcovado Mountain offers spectacular views of Rio: the lush green mountains, urban sprawl and the deep blue of the Atlantic ocean curving through the city. Unsurprisingly for such a famous sight, Christ the Redeemer was mobbed when we visited, and we jostled for position with other tourists, all taking picture mimicking that famous pose. Here’s our photo essay of Christ the Redeemer.
Have you ever visited the Christmas the Redeemer statue? Did it impress you as much as it impressed us?
